123rd New York Volunteer Infantry

1862 - 1865

Roster - Company E

Hartford and Hebron

Hartford and Hebron raised 134 men for the 123rd Regiment, Hartford 69 men and Hebron 65 men. This was more than enough for one Company, so when they reached Salem, Capt. Weir selected the best men, and the balance were transferred to the other companies. This accounted for Co. E. having such a fine looking body of men, most of them being large and well formed, and of about the same height. Hartford adopted appropriate measures to fill her quota, and the demand for men and means was met by a cheerful and hearty response. Hebron appointed the following committee to aid in securing men to fill her quota: Dr. Charles J. White, John S. McFarlland, Hon. S.E. Spoor and John M. Rea. The Company from Hartford and Hebron was fifth to reach the rendezvous at Salem, and took position in the regiment as Co. E., receiving $5,350 in bounty.
